WHAT IS BLACK FRIDAY AND CYBER MONDAY?
For November there are 2 major sale dates known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These sales rival Boxing Day and EOFYS (End Of Financial Year Sale) in terms of huge discounts for the public. Black Friday followed by Cyber Monday has become growingly popular in Australia with retailers. Black Friday is usually late November and many retailers offer huge discounts on their service or product for both Instore and Online.
The Black Friday Sale started in the US. Over the years has grown in Australia and has now become a date marking the beginning of Christmas Shopping.
TIME TO WATCH FOR:
You might be asking yourself what time do these sales start? I want to get in 1st as the saying goes 1st in, best dressed. These times can vary if it’s ONLINE or INSTORE.
Black Friday sales usually kick off at MIDNIGHT if ONLINE or if INSTORE it will be the opening time of the store. If you shop with a larger retailer like Amazon or eBay then they might run deals at specific times throughout the day, these deals often have massive savings to them. These sales for INSTORE or ONLINE are very competitive and you will want to get in quickly to secure the items.
It’s also to note that some retailers will drop deals and/or sales before or after such as over the weekend to get your attention or another chance if the item is very popular. Doing research before these sales will ensure you don’t miss an out.
PREPARATION IS KEY!
Preparation is your best friend when it comes to big sale events. Having your essentials ready will help and I am not just referring to your credit card.
Your preparation will avoid you missing out on any great deals and could help get you better deals.
Black Friday Preparation Keys:
- Sign up with your selected retailer’s memberships and marketing to ensure you get your offers first ( Example Amazon, eBay, Kogan and smaller business sites).
- Figure out how you wish to pay (Debit Card, Afterpay, Credit Card).
- Make sure you’ve got the money available (Ensure you don’t outdo yourself and put yourself in unnecessary debt).
- You could do a pre-shop and add to your cart and have your list of preferred sites ready.
- Make notes of your sale dates and sale times to ensure you don’t miss out
CAUTION! WATCH OUT!
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are popular time for online sales specifically. This specific time is unfortunately time for scammers to be in full force. The scammers unfortunately have mastered coping major brands.
Shoppers need to be aware that if ordering on these scammer sites you might be left waiting for products you will never see or you will receive knock-off products with poor quality. These sites have very good marketing through Ads and search engines to get your attention.
Despite the increased marketing of these sites, you can spot if the website is a scammer site or spot some red flags. As mentioned earlier one of the red flags will be if the SALE is too good to be true, it usually is, other signs include unusual URL or complicated URL for a website that shouldn’t be if it is legal. On any site you are not familiar with I would suggest you look for certain tell-tale signs that it isn’t official, for example if it’s missing an “ABOUT US” and /or “CONTACT US” page that is unusual. Suggested to try the links to social media for example and generally if they don’t work, you could be looking at a scam site.
It’s also suggested to watch for the payment options on the site. Websites accepting only cards could be a red flag as legitimate businesses would also like to offer you multiple secure payment options. Card details can be stolen but you have legitimate 3rd party payments like PayPal to ensure more security.
