Equine-Specific Design

The major difference between the Henderson Equine Castrating Instrument and the Henderson cattle version is the wider opening of the plier jaws. This increased opening is designed to accommodate the larger cords encountered in stallions. For this reason, the manufacturer recommends the Henderson Equine instrument for stallion use only.

The Henderson technique uses a variable-speed power drill to rotate the instrument and twist the cord until it separates. During the closed procedure, the tunic effectively ties off the vessels, assisting with haemostasis.

This is a specialised veterinary procedure and the instrument should only be operated by appropriately experienced personnel under veterinary supervision and with the animal under general anaesthetic.
